Important Update for MSMEs
As of July 1, 2020, the old MSME Registration/Udyog Aadhaar system, where a UAM Number was generated, has been replaced by the Udyam Registration system. Any MSME registration obtained before this date is no longer valid, and businesses must apply for Udyam Registration afresh.
The MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) / Udyam Certificate is an official government registration document issued by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, to recognize and classify eligible business entities as Micro, Small, or Medium Enterprises under the MSME Development Act, 2006.
The Udyam Registration scheme is open to all micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), including partnership firms, without restrictions on business entity type. Registering under this scheme enables partnership firms to access a range of government benefits and incentives designed to foster MSME growth. These include easier credit access, subsidies, tax incentives, and preferential treatment in government procurement, all of which help businesses expand and contribute to the economy.
Individuals with an Aadhaar card linked to a valid mobile number, whose business falls under the MSME classification, can register under this new system. This registration grants access to a wide range of benefits and schemes introduced by the Ministry of MSME. Before proceeding, let’s explore the updated MSME classification.
